9-year-old TRS-Castrol protégé, Flynn Jackes, wins Asian Karting Open in Macau

Flynn Jackes is not your typical 9-year-old boy. He races go karts in his free time and began his racing career back in 2010 at the Castrol Champions of the Future karting program - the grassroots karting program of Tuason Racing School (TRS). And last July 1, 2012, Jackes made history by winning the Asian Karting Open Championships (AKOC) - Mini Rock Division in Macau. He was also the only Filipino to finish in the top three spots of the karting series.
The Macau leg of the AKOC was Jackes' first-ever international race. With a consistent performance, he came out on top of his class during Friday's practice with a best lap time for Mini Rok of 57.37 seconds. But the downpour on Saturday made it difficult for the 9-year-old to adjust to the changing track conditions. Jackes took an early lead in the third heat on a dry track, but when it rained, the tricky conditions caused him to crash out and left him in last place.
Come Sunday, Jackes had a lot of work to do after Saturday's dismal result. A bad start in the final heat saw Jackes drop a few places, but quickly managed to slot himself in fifth. And in just three laps, his hard work paid off when he worked his way to the lead and kept the position all the way to the chequered flag.
“We never expected to win, we wanted to take Flynn out of the Philippines for him to see what the competition is like abroad,” said coach Mike Tuason. “ We are very proud of Flynn’s accomplishment just after a year of racing. We believe he has a very bright future in motorsports and will be one of the best racers in his generation.”
AKOC brings together the best Asian drivers and provides them the experience and training for global competition.
