Mauro Calo sets record for World's Longest Drift in a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

Before last weekend set in, American drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr. was happily holding-on to his record for World’s Longest Car Drift, which he set in a stock Ford Mustang at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in December of 2008. Two and a half years later, Mauro Calo had the pleasure of snatching the title away from him in a 2011 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG at the Mercedes-Benz World in England.
On the 20th day of June, 2011, stunt driver Mauro Calo drifted his 457 horsepower AMG 6.3-liter V8 Benz a total of 2,308 meters, 394 meters farther than Gittin’s record, landing him a place in the Guinness Book of Records. Calo completed almost eight laps around Benz's World round tarmac track before his record attempt was cut short by a blown a rear tire. Thus, we reckon that if only harder compound tires were fitted to his C63 AMG, Calo would have gone even farther. But considering that record was only broken by a few hundred meters, it won't come as a surprise if Gittin Jr. tries to regain the title and take another shot at the record books.

For now, lets all just celebrate with Mauro Calo in his Guinness World Record-setting Longest Car Drift.
