Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) today issued a voluntary recall which affects some 171 units of the Honda Pilot and Odyssey sold in the Philippines from June 2012 to January 2013. This is part of a campaign that involves 836,176 Pilots and Odyssesys worldwide which were manufactured in the USA. The issue addressed by this bulletin comes from a potential inappropriate installation of driver-side front airbag rivets.
“Findings show that there are possibly some rivets which secure the driver’s front airbag cover and bracket that were inappropriately installed. As a result, the deployment characteristics of the affected airbags may change upon collision and driver protection performance may decrease,” read HCPI's official statement. Thankfully, no crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue.
Affected vehicle owners shall be notified through phone by Honda dealers nationwide, while letters of notice have been sent out starting January 19, 2013. HCPI is then encouraging owners to bring their affected units to their nearest authorized Honda dealer as soon as they receive the notification. But in the event that the owners have already sold their units, they are requested to inform the dealership immediately so they can inform the transferee of the recall campaign.

At the dealership, Honda will inspect the driver-side front airbag of the affected vehicles FREE OF CHARGE. The inspection in itself should only take around 12 minutes, plus an extra 6 minutes in case parts need to be replaced. But do take into account the time needed for the usual check-in and check-out procedures. This service will be carried out in all 28 authorized Honda dealers and 3 service centers nationwide and will start on January 21, 2013.
To conduct the voluntary recall in an orderly manner, customers are requested to call their respective dealers for a service appointment or call the Honda Hotline at 1-800-1000-HONDA (46632) and (02) 857-7240 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Owners of other Honda models sold and distributed by HCPI are not affected by this recall and have no reason to worry.
