Ford is really bringing their A-game. They've already have won two international awards this year. The first was “Van of the Year 2013” for the new Transit custom, followed by “International Engine of the Year” for its 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine found in the new Ford Fiesta. And now on their third straight win, Ford bagged the “International Pick-Up Award 2013” for their all-new Ranger.
Testing was conducted in Brentwood, Essex where judges praised the Ford Ranger for its on- and off-road prowess, payload and towing capacity, safety, and of course, its strong engine line-up. Not only did it manage to score 47 points - more than what second-placer Isuzu D-Max and third-placer Volkswagen Amarok got combined, but every member of the judging panel ranked it as their number one choice.
The Ford Ranger is designed totally new from the ground up. It's perfect for either work or leisure and offers the roomiest interior in its class, an interactive 4.2-inch entertainment system, wading depth of 800 mm, and payload capacity of 1,400kg. The four-cylinder 2.2L Duratorq TDCi VG Turbo under its hood has been proven to be capable of running as much as 19.44 km/L, while the mass shipment of bigger five-cylinder 3.2L version has yet to arrive on our country. Oh, I almost forgot. The all-new Ford Ranger is also the very first pickup to ever achieve a 5-Star NCAP rating, making it one the safest trucks in the market.
It’s a well-deserved win for Ford. I’ve personally driven both the 4x2 AT and MT versions of the 2.2L Duratorq Ranger during the qualitative tests of the 2012 - 2013 Car of the Year Philippines (COTY-P) and I can attest how well this truck drives. Let's hope and see if can also take the crown as the best pickup of the year here in the Philippines.
