At last, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has responded to the Global Airbag Recall fiasco that has also affected Nissan, Honda, and Mazda. They just announced that an estimated 3,500 units of the Toyota Corolla Altis sold locally might be affected by the global recall that's caused by a faulty passenger airbag.

Affected units are said to be assembled between May 11, 2001 and March 31, 2003 only, but they can't pinpoint exactly which ones were equipped with these faulty airbags. That means customers whose vehicles fall within the said production date should visit an authorized Toyota dealership nationwide to have it checked. And if found defective, Toyota will replace the part at no cost to the customer.

Toyota's design department has been playing things safe for the past decade. Sure, the cars they came up with don't look bad, but just a little bit too safe, if you ask me. But at last, the Japanese automaker's new priority is to “develop more dramatic, expressively designed vehicles.” And the result is this - the Toyota Corolla Furia Concept - which they revealed at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

*UPDATE*
TMP added to their original statement that the 3.5Q variant of the Camry is not affected by the recall. Also, if you have been experiencing any of the symptoms described, Toyota is now advising affected vehicle owners to contact their nearest Toyota dealer to schedule an appointment.

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has issued a voluntary recall of 22,000 units sold between 2006 and 2010 over a faulty Power Window Master Switch last Wednesday, October 10, 2012. This is part of a global campaign that affects 7.43 million vehicles worldwide to fix power window switches that may get stuck, produce smoke, and potentially cause a fire. Affecting more than a dozen models globally, the local recall covers the Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Vios, and Yaris. There has, however, been no reports of major injuries from the problem.

Car names defined

Words by Christopher Kho and Jade Lu

car_names
Car makers across the globe name their latest models after elaborate words from the English dictionary (except for the Europeans who use a labyrinth of letters and numbers) to somehow reflect its prominent characteristics and dazzle their patrons over its obscure moniker. But after a multitude of brochures, advertisements, test drives, and car reviews, have we really given some thought what some of these nameplates really mean? Thankfully, the internet - and notably the guys at Dictionary.com - has put together a list of definitions for some of the most prominent and memorable car models ever to grace this planet.
