Jaguar's C-X16 no longer a concept; Now called the F-TYPE

Remember our story about a new concept roadster from Jaguar, the C-X16? Well, guess what? The big cat have confirmed that this concept, launched at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, will finally become a reality. Given the official name F-TYPE, it's scheduled to enter production very very soon and we should be able to see it in the sheet metal later this year. The only difference we can see in this early prototype from the concept is that they've turned the coupe into a soft top roadster.
Although no technical details have yet been confirmed, we're speculating that this two-seater roadster will have a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine hiding under bonnet from the C-X16, producing 376 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. If that's true, this lean cat should be able to leap from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 secs and reach 300 km/h, that's if you have the balls to keep the gas pedal to the floor. We're also quite excited to see the “Push to Pass” hybrid system make it into production. This feature delivers an extra 94 horsepower and 234 Nm of torque controlled by a steering wheel-mounted button that functions pretty much like Formula 1's KERS system. Now that's cool.
Full details of the F-TYPE will be announced later this year and will be on sale by mid 2013. So if your planning to buy a Porsche, Ferrari, or an Audi anytime soon, you might want to wait just a bit longer because the Jaguar F-TYPE is a sports car that is worth waiting for.
