A glimpse of Honda's 9th generation Accord Coupe

Honda has been able to afford to give a glimpse of its upcoming ninth-generation Accord Coupe via a concept previewed in Detroit. But while many of their fans might be dazzled by the large chrome wheels, a well chiseled front bumper with an LED-crowned air intake, and topped-off with dual exhausts integrated into the rear bumper, well, don’t be deceived so easily.
The basic lines from current eight-generation Accord are still present albeit with a few nips and tucks here are there. Honda’s conservative design approach is not that surprising as the Accord is selling relatively well; so why mess with a tried and proven formula? Still, we would need to wait for the final production version to be able to judge it properly.
Power will be taken from a new Earth Dreams 2.4L inline-four direction-injection engine with an adequate output of 181hp and 240 Nm of torque, which is then efficiently coursed through a continuously variable transmission. There is also the re-engineered 3.5L V6 with the still-revolutionary Variable Cylinder Management mated to a new 6-speed automatic or manual transmission. There's also a Hybrid Plug-In option, but its availability for the Philippine market will always be in doubt.
New safety features that were once only available on top-tier European brands will make its way to the mainstream Accord, including a lane departure warning, forward collision warning, blind-spot display, and a multi-angle rear-view camera.
Though the concept might only have two doors, its four-door sibling should look no different. Expect the new Accord to makes its world debut later this year and perhaps make it into Philippine soil by 2013.
