The Philippine Azkals can now travel in style after they kicked off the most exciting partnership in motoring and sporting media history. The Columbian Autocar Corporation (CAC), the exclusive distributor of Kia vehicles in the Philippines, is now the Azkals' official transport provider.

“We are thankful for the show of confidence from Kia, as well as from the rest of our countrymen, and now the players, team management and coaching staff are that much more motivated to train hard and give our best,” said team manager Dan Palami, the man responsible for turning the Philippine team into a winning organization.

Bearing the signature bike number 129, the 22-year old Suzuki Philippines team rider Maico Greg Buncio sadly passed away Sunday afternoon, May 15, 2011, due serious injuries sustained after crashing out during the qualifier race the day before at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.

Here is an except from the official statement issued by the Buncio family and Suzuki Philippines regarding the accident:

“Traveling at high speed, his bike had slipped into loose gravel on the shoulder of the speedway. Buncio was thrown off 100 meters from his bike, crashing into an unfinished barrier on the speedway where a protruding steel bar punctured his body and damaged his kidney and liver. He was rushed to a nearby hospital before being brought to the UST Hospital early morning of Sunday, but the doctors’ efforts were in vain, and he passed away at 3:57pm.”

After receiving news of Buncio's passing, all races at the Clark International Speedway on Sunday afternoon were cancelled.

The Covenant Car Company Inc. (TCCCI), the exclusive distributor of Chevrolet in the Philippines, recorded a remarkable 14 percent year-on-year sales growth during the first four months of 2011, and that's compared to the projected industry average of just 5 percent! The boom in market share is also felt throughout the ASEAN region with Thailand posting a 75 percent growth in the same time frame. Facilitating this push, the Chevrolet Cruze was recently crowned as the Philippines' the 2010 - 2011 Car of the Year (COTY-P) at the 7th Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). It also garnered two awards at the recent Bangkok International Motor Show.

The Volvo Golf Team comes out on top in both Group and Individual categories at the recently-concluded Society of Philippine Motoring Journalists (SPMJ) Invitational Golf Tournament held at the Fontana and Apollon Korea Country Club in Pampanga.

The team composed entirely of Volvo clients won First Runner Up in the Team Division, while famed actor and sports enthusiast Derek Ramsay Jr. drives his way to victory for the Individual Category A division. Derek Ramsay Jr. was accompanied by his dad Derek Sr., who also shares the same love for the sport and the Volvo brand.

The Volvo brand has been synonymous with golf, having been supporting the sport for more than 25 years. The Volvo World Golf Challenge runs throughout the world where its support also encompasses the amateur league. Local activities like these are especially supported to promote camaraderie amongst Volvo clients.

bnk_logoGoodyear Philippines’ Bayani ng Kalsada (BNK) program is approaching its last stretch as it announces the deadline for nominations on May 15, 2011. Bayani ng Kalsada is a nationwide search for Filipino drivers who have exhibited heroic acts of courage, sacrifice and extraordinary selflessness in keeping others safe on the road.

In the 2010 - 2011 search, several individuals have been found to step out of their comfort zone when faced with an opportunity to perform a good deed. No politics, no recognition, no reward money; just a selfless act of kindness.

Now in its fifth consecutive year, BNK hopes to inspire Filipino drivers, by way of example, to become more responsible motorists and help make Philippine roads safer.

Summer isn’t quite over yet! So while there’s still time to soak up the heat in a last minute vacation, grab the opportunity to do it with a Volvo. For the whole month of May, Volvo is giving out some sweet freebies upon each purchase of a new unit from their Makati Showroom. Pick between a Garmin Navigational System, Volvo Currency worth P20,000, or an overnight stay for 2 at the Discovery Country Suites, Tagaytay City.

The promo is applicable to the purchase of an all-new S60, the C30, or an XC60. And by the looks of things, anyone taking advantage of this promo has some pretty tough decisions to make. The model selection is already hard stuff, but the choice of freebie is a dilemma just the same.

For the past several years, the Accent emblem has been quietly building a solid reputation in the Philippines. The simplistic subcompact won the hearts of its private and commercial patrons due to its reliability, build quality, and the unbeatable fuel-economy of its once 1.5L diesel engine. Though Hyundai sold them by the boatloads, it never quite had the charisma nor the confidence to rub elbows with its peers. But in late 2010, all that changed when the Accent was given a new life. Embracing Hyundai's new “fluidic sculpture” design philosophy, the all-new 2011 Accent now has the looks and the grandeur to hold its head up high.

hyundai_logoHyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI), the official distributor of Hyundai in the Philippines, closes the books on April with yet another sales growth. Boosting their steady climb to the top of the list are Hyundai's fleet of fuel-efficient vehicles with the Accent and Sonata under the Passenger Car (PC) segment and the Santa Fe, Tuscon, and Grand Starex for the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) category.

Topping the charts is the recently-launched Accent which logged in an impressive 30% month-to-date (m-t-d) sales growth, followed suit by the largely-successful Sonata basking in an 18% boost in April. Their baby SUV, the Tucson, is also going through a growth spurt, upsizing by 20% in the month alone and a downright shocking 100% on a year's basis. Not to be left behind, the Santa Fe and Grand Starex are still chipping away the numbers after all these years and bags an 85% and 10% rise in sales growth, respectively
