Truth be told, us guys at Kotse.com love food. We find comfort in familiar cooking, aversion towards fast food, and zest for new flavors. We review these meals amongst ourselves, taking this activity for granted; not realizing this skill for tasting will come into good use one day. That day came and, needless to say, we were quite excited to add “eating” in our job descriptions.

Our first victim: Chuck’s Deli located right in the front of Serendra at the Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. They’re known for their burgers and sandwiches... err... slabwiches. What’s a slabwich, you might ask? It’s a hungry man’s dream: two slabs of 10-inch ciabatta stuffed with piles of meat and veggies between them. (And by ‘stuffed,’ we mean half a kilo’s worth!) We were also tipped off about their yummy Arce Dairy milkshakes. With everything sounding good on the menu, making decisions on what to eat can be pretty tough, so we opted to order the best-sellers and see what the hype was all about. Let’s eat!

City Kart Racing (CKR) Makati is pulling out all the stops to make this month go-kart crazy. The madness begins as they offer speed junkies two special promos for the entire month of July. For only P1,500, satisfy your need for speed (and save P460) with three (3) race heats and get a racing license and balaclava for FREE. Seasoned drivers also get a shot of adrenaline on the house, because whenever they bring three first time karters to CKR, he or she gets to race on the ProKarts for FREE. Finally, wacky racers unite on July 16 at the first ever “2 Hours Clock & Counter” endurance race.

The “2 Hours Clock & Counter” race puts a new spin on go-kart racing. 15 teams comprised of 2 to 4 drivers each will race wheel-to-wheel for 2 hours non-stop around the CKR circuit, but here's the twist: The race gets the green flag as drivers pull some quick laps in the clockwise direction. But after a full hour racing, they're flipping the race 180 degrees by resuming the race in the counter-clockwise direction. Moreover, teams are required to return to the pits for a mandatory driver change every 30 minutes. Test skill and stamina as CKR quite literally puts a new twist on endurance racing.

Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima proved to world yet again why he's called “King of the Mountain” when finally he shattered the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb's 10-minute barrier last June 26, 2011. Piloting a purpose-built 900 horsepower Team GoPro Monster Sport Suzuki SX4, Monster conquered the 20-kilometer 156-turn “Race to the Clouds,” and reached the 4,300 meter high summit in just 9 minutes and 51.278 seconds, capturing his sixth consecutive overall victory in the process. Strap on your seat belts and take the closest thing to a shotgun ride (courtesy of GoPro) with Monster on what is currently the fastest way up Colorado's Pikes Peak.

The Swedes got the upper hand in this year's J.D. Power study for the German car market, topping the Germans and Japanese. Volvo ranked highest in vehicle owner satisfaction rating with a score of 841 (on a 1,000 point scale) in the 2011 study conducted by J.D. Power on more than 17,000 owner evaluations of their vehicles and dealers. This simply demonstrates the quality that comes with each Volvo vehicle.

Besides the marque's achievement, two Volvo models also gained podium places in product ranking. In the medium segment, the Volvo V50 won silver, securing third place in the overall ranking of all models, while the V70 garnered a bronze in the executive class.

In celebration of Dr. Jose Rizal's 150th birthday, Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI) has teamed-up with the National Parks Development Committee (NPDC) to restore Rizal Park to its former glory. After years of neglect, the 54-hectare historical monument where our national hero was once martyred finally received much-needed funding for its renovation from HARI as a gift to the Filipino people. Last June 12, 2011, Independence Day, Hyundai unveiled to the public the first of its three gifts, the renovated iconic Flower Clock.

Even before he was old enough to get a driver's license, Gary Thompson was already busy racking up the victories on the race track. The young Irishman practically grew up in the circuits around the world - racing in go karts, Formula BMW, and more recently in the Japanese Formula 3 series. With a natural talent for speed and a dedicated team behind him, Gary surely has his sights fixed on Formula One to join the ranks of fellow countrymen Ralph Firman Jr. and Eddie Irvine.
