It proved to be a grand day for Dr. Peewee Mendiola of the Big Chill Racing Team at the recently-concluded 5th Leg of the Race Motorsports Club (RMSC) National Slalom Series. Held last June 5, 2011 at the Robinsons Market in Sta. Rosa Laguna, Mendiola made a comeback after missing out on the top step of the podium last time around. His flawless performance and perfect car setup clocked him a time of 41.70 seconds that set the Overall and Production class best time of the day. Closest rival Noel Rivera of Team Fern C tried hard, but only managed to finish second best with his time of 42.16 seconds.

Today’s yuppies have got it all going for them: advanced technology, increased buying power, and Angry Birds among other things. Between tweeting and passing out applications for their dream jobs, I’ve noticed quite a lot of today’s products aimed at the youth on-the-go, which is why I’m really not surprised that the automotive world followed suit and designed vehicles suited for this “in-crowd.” So allow me to describe my exploits with Chevrolet's latest hip mini-car, the all-new Spark.

Functioning as the DJ's official ride for upcoming events and campus tours, the Fiesta hatchback struts in style around the busy streets of Metro Manila foiled in a special 99.5RT livery. Just like one of the country’s leading radio networks, all-the new Ford Fiesta has shot its way to the top of the highly competitive small car segment with its hip features, making it a perfect match for 99.5RT that brings cutting edge music on the radio waves each day.

The boys at Audi surely know how to push things over the edge when they created the 503 horsepower A1 clubsport quattro. This pint-sized hatchback is a one-off creation built to test Audi's technological limits. Powered by a 2.5 liter turbo-charged five-cylinder TFSI engine with quattro permanent all-wheel drive, this could be a prelude to Audi's return to the WRC.

Raw Power
The A1 clubsport quattro is designed to be a road-legal track monster. Weighing in at just 1,390 kg, it can achieve supercar figures, catapulting from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds and reach 200 km/h 7.2 seconds later. And by adopting the TT RS' six-speed manual transmission and quattro permanent all-wheel drive, this hot hatch should easily reach a limited top speed of 250 km/h.
