At the recent 4th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS), Kia’s booth was a stand-out, in more ways than one. Show-goers might be forgiven, however, for missing the new facelifted 2014 Sorento. In many ways, it looks a lot like the current 2012 Sorento.

That’s not quite a bad thing. The current model is a hit. It’s powerful, stylish, and very affordable. With the smooth 2.4 liter Theta II gasoline powerplant and the astonishing 190 horsepower 2.2 liter R-eVGT diesel, the Sorento is already a compelling package. You know how the saying goes: “If it ain’t broke, don’t break it.”

But of course, it would be cruel to leave things unchanged...

The second generation Kia Sorento has been around since early 2010, and it’s about time that the model receives a much-needed facelift. So to refresh their beloved midsize crossover SUV, the Korean automaker teases the public with their upcoming 2014 Sorento

While the rest of the body remains the same, notable changes for the midlife update include new head lights and tail lights which feature led lamps, more aggressively designed front and rear bumpers, and larger 19-inch alloy wheels. What's remarkable is that these changes actually clean up the Sorento's line , making it look a lot, lot more sophisticated and a little bit... European. As a matter of fact, the new tail lights are a bit Audi-like.

Once upon a time, Kia was known as a “cheap” alternative. The Pride, for one, was once the cheapest brand new vehicle available on the market in the early 90's. This trend continued through with the Picanto, which debuted at half the price of its then non-existent competitors.

Nowadays, Kia is more mainstream. In fact, it positions itself as an upmarket choice to the common car, with stylish models like the Rio and the Sportage. And while the Sorento may not be the newest car in the Kia garage, it’s still one of the more enticing SUVs in its segment, so we went out to find out just how exciting it really is.
