After missing out on the 2011 Championship with just a few points, Dr. Peewee Mendiola from the Big Chill Racing Team was a man on a mission when he returned for the 1st leg of the 2012 Race Motorsports Club's (RMSC) Shell Helix National Slalom Series, held last February 19, 2012 at the Robinsons Nova Market.

Mendiola was on a league of his own when he posted a time of 59.36 seconds - almost a full second ahead of nearest rival Milo Rivera. The run earned him both the Overall and Production Rear Wheel best time of the day. Milo Rivera from the Fern C Racing Team, on the other hand, managed a solid 2nd place finish with a time of 60.34 sec, followed closely by Mato Tan of the DGL Racing Team with his 61.02 sec run. In 4th and 5th were DGL himself, David Lim and Peque Alacbay of Team Uno with near-identical times of 61.40 and 61.50 sec.

Macau might be best known for its high-rolling casinos, but on a special weekend in November each year, everyone puts their cards down on the table as they turn the city's streets into a circuit. Be part of history with tour packages from Red Rock Travel (RRT) when the lights turn green at the 58th Macau Grand Prix on November 17 to 20, 2011.

The Macau Grand Prix is the only street circuit in the world where both cars and motorcycle races are held. With 6.2 kilometers of fast straights, tight corners, and uncompromising crash barriers to deal with each lap, it's easily one of the most demanding circuits in the world. It's also where future Formula One champions are made, where the roster of winners's circle includes David Coulthard, Michael Schumacher, and the late Ayrton Senna. The Philippines has also made its mark in the Macau Grand Prix with Arsenio “Dodjie” Laurel as the GP's first consecutive two-time champion in 62' and 63'.

Bearing the signature bike number 129, the 22-year old Suzuki Philippines team rider Maico Greg Buncio sadly passed away Sunday afternoon, May 15, 2011, due serious injuries sustained after crashing out during the qualifier race the day before at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.

Here is an except from the official statement issued by the Buncio family and Suzuki Philippines regarding the accident:

“Traveling at high speed, his bike had slipped into loose gravel on the shoulder of the speedway. Buncio was thrown off 100 meters from his bike, crashing into an unfinished barrier on the speedway where a protruding steel bar punctured his body and damaged his kidney and liver. He was rushed to a nearby hospital before being brought to the UST Hospital early morning of Sunday, but the doctors’ efforts were in vain, and he passed away at 3:57pm.”

After receiving news of Buncio's passing, all races at the Clark International Speedway on Sunday afternoon were cancelled.

After last year's championship victory, Volvo Polestar Racing is keen to hold onto their title as the 2011 Scandinavian Touring Car Championship (STCC) gets underway on April 23, 2011 in Jyllandsringen, Denmark. Temperatures are running high in the team's headquarters as they're even more determined to win both the team and driver's championship again.

The Quick C30 DRIVe
The team will be campaigning two newly-developed Volvo C30's for this year's season. STCC rules require teams to run chassis based on the standard production cars, but the only parts that remained original were the C30's body shell and doors. Polestar Racing was also given special access to Volvo's wind tunnel to further improve the car's aerodynamics with the addition of a front air splitter, wider wheel arches, and a rear wing. By stripping the C30 to its bare necessities, they were able to bring its weight down to 1,164 kg.
