mias 2013
Better get ready, because the Philippines' biggest motoring event of the year is back. Organized by Worldbex Services international (WSI), the 9th Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) is set to invade the World Trade Center Manila and Philippine Trade Training Center this April 4 to 7, 2013.

This year's show carries the theme “Innovation and Technology” to highlight the slew of technological features that cars of today come with. Innovations such as active park assist, full auto brake, pedestrian detection, electronic stability control, and bluetooth connectivity not only make driving more convenient and enjoyable, but also a whole lot safer. Just imagine what new toys are in store in this year's show.

The MINI hatchback has never sold itself on practicality. Sure, it's a relatively fuel efficient car with the carbon-footprint of a newborn mouse, but there are cars that cost less that can do a whole lot more. This situation obviously limits the brand's appeal, so in order to widen its horizons, MINI have taken the logical next step in development: Make it even less practical.

The MINI Coupe does away with such frivolities as a back seat or a cargo hatch. The Roadster goes one step further and takes away the unnecessary roof, too.

The result is absolutely fascinating.

With a total of 2,377 horsepower on tap, BMW and its fleet of M Powered monsters had to have the most power-packed, testosterone-filled, and mind-blowing display at the 8th Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). It put up such a big threat that the organizers had very little choice but to vote it the Best Booth if they ever wanted to come out alive. Making up the numbers is a 335 hp 1 Series M Coupe, 420 hp M3 Convertible, 507 hp M6, 555 hp X5 M, and a brand-spanking-new 560 horsepower F10 M5 leading the pack.

After months of teasers, previews, and a supply problem pushing back the launch date by a month, the country's most-anticipated pickup truck has finally arrived. Once and for all, we got to see Ford's all-new Ranger in the flesh when it made its official Philippine debut at the 8th Manila International Auto Show (MIAS)

With all the build-up, the all-new Ranger lives up to all of our expectations without a doubt... well, at least whilst standing still on the show's floor. It looks just as good in person as it does in pictures, and it's only when you get up close do you truly comprehend what Ford meant by its “21st Century Tough” styling. And with its large fenders and high beltline, the all-new Ranger ain't afraid of flexing its muscles. While the high pedestal where it was mounted certainly helped enhance its bulk, let me assure you that this is one hell of a big truck. Measuring 5.274 meters long and 2.13 meters wide, it’s almost as big as an F150.

Best known for their line of heavy equipment, utilitarian trucks, and trailers, United Asia Automotive Group Inc. (UAAGI), the exclusive distributor of Foton in the Philippines, is now ready to take on new territory after launching their latest pick-up at the 8th Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). While the Blizzard was the trusty workhorse for the field, the all-new Thunder is a noble steed that should have no problems rubbing elbows with the big boys.

A mere six months after its world debut in Frankfurt last September 2011, Motor Image Pilipinas, Subaru's exclusive distributor in the country, pulled out the biggest surprise at the recent 8th Manila International Auto Show when they unveiled the all-new 2013 Subaru XV.

With the new Explorer, Ford threw out the rule-book on traditional American SUVs, converting its best-selling truck into a unibody crossover. In this way, they managed to trim the fat while making the new car more spacious and more luxurious than ever before. This revolutionary approach resulted in unprecedented sales and a waiting list that stretches a mile long. And with the arrival of the new Explorer GTDi EcoBoost at the 8th Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), Ford develops the concept even further, downsizing the engine itself to save even more weight and perhaps some fuel, too.

Never mind that Hyundai didn’t have any concepts at the 8th Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), because the Veloster is a concept car gone wild. Despite the humble specifications, the Veloster is a delight to the senses. Pent-up demand for this stylish ride is so great that gray-market units have been selling like crazy. But Hyundai’s launch at MIAS now makes this three-dour coupe available to a wider audience... maybe. The official line from Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI) is that “the Veloster is a preview for Hyundai’s gasoline direct injection technology.” Prices have yet to be finalized, but expect it to cost more than the Elantra and hopefully, less than the Genesis Coupe.
