To some lucky few, the chance of owning a Lamborghini marks our conquest of reaching top dog status or a sign of hitting a mid-life crisis. Whatever the reason may be, owning one will feel like it’s your birthday every day. Like every birthday, celebrating it involves friends and family members, and throwing a party. Then, to satisfy yourself (not in a perverted manner), you get yourself a gift as a symbol of your undying love to you. The company Lamborghini decided to follow this formula on their 50th birthday. For their half century shindig, they first gave us the Veneno to celebrate with a friend or family member. The gift to yourself part comes in the form of the Lamborghini Egoista Concept.

Time indeed flies when you're having fun, especially when you work for Lamborghini. Would you believe, the Italian supercar maker started out by building tractors from surplus World War II parts. Then, in 1963, founder Ferruccio Lamborgini decided to switch to building sports cars after a certain Mr. Enzo Ferrari told him that a tractor builder knew nothing about sports cars. And as the say, the rest is history - all 50 years of it.

So in celebration of Lamborghini's 50th birthday, they launched a tweaked and even more uncompromising Aventador called the LP720-4 50° Anniversario, limited to only 100 units worldwide. Of course, each unit is marked by a forged composite badge with the 50° logo and a serial number.

veneno mainLike everything that walks this great Earth, after being in existence for half a century, things start to slow down, some parts refuse to cooperate, and skin starts to wrinkle up. But with Lamborghini, they celebrate their 50th anniversary by making things look like a blur. Enter the new killer bull in their arena of awesome - the Veneno.

Debuting together with the equally epic Ferrari LaFerrari during this year’s Geneva International Motor Show, the mavericks from Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy did not fail to impress gear heads. The Italians must have designed this one right after their 50th anniversary bash with alcohol still rushing through their veins. Whatever they were on, it could’ve been really potent to get something like this.

The Gallardo first rolled off Lamborghini's factory in Sant'Agata, Italy exactly one decade ago. I could still clearly remember when half the world cried sacrilege when they saw that this Lamborghini didn't come with “Lambo doors,” but I'm pretty sure that its more than 13,000 would-be owners didn't mind. As a matter of fact, the Gallardo is considered as Lamborghini's most successful model to date, spawning more than a dozen versions from Coupes, Spyders, Bicolores, Tricolores, Balboni editions, to the ultimate Super Trofeo Stradale.

All this glory, however, eventually has to come to an end. So to give it one last hurrah, Lamborghini Manila launched the final edition of the Gallardo LP560-4.

As if the Aventador wasn’t hot enough already, Lamborghini wanted to make sure everyone is left dripping wet when they see this supercar. Needless to say, the Italian automaker has pushed the right buttons to whet the public’s appetite. Add a topless model to the lineup, what could be simpler? We mean, of course, the Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster.

The roadster features a completely new engine hood with a central “spinal column,” which holds the two hexagonal side windows together. This is where form meets function. These windows serve to cool the engine, drain rain water properly, and show off the 6.5L V12 engine. Speaking of engine, passengers can now adjust how much of the engine’s roar they want to hear by putting the rear windshield up or down. Although, frankly, I don’t think the words “calm and quiet” and “Aventador” fit in the same sentence.

Automobili Lamborghini began production of their latest flagship supercar, the Aventador LP 700-4, back in April of 2011. It comes with a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, a screaming 700 horsepower 6.5L V12, and more importantly, a US$ 380,000 price tag, or around P40 million if you buy one from Lamborghini Manila. But the most remarkable detail about this Italian supercar is that Lamborghini has already built and sold its 1,000th Aventador in just 1 year and 3 months since production started.

Draped in Argos Orange, the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 with chassis number 1,000 is destined for Germany, to the garage of Bavarian Architect, Hans Scheidecker, where it will reside beside the owner's Diablo.

Lamborghini finds a stable in Manila

After months of waiting, the raging bull is finally here. Although the Italian supercar brand had its soft launch as early as January, Lamborghini Manila has now officially and finally opened its showroom doors. So if you have a big enough bank account, you can call them up right now and set up an appointment so you can get up close and personal with one of these rare beasts.

Lamborghini Manila sits right beside fellow PGA Cars Inc. conglomerate Audi Global City, located on the 11th Ave. at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig. On top of Lamborghini's full model range, the supercar dealership also offers warranty and full maintenance services, as well as spare parts and accessories to make sure that all bulls, old and new, are in tip top shape. And if you don't want to just drive Lamborghini, you can also wear Lamborghini, as they're also distributors of the exclusive fashion line of Collezione Automobili Lamborghini.

If the name “Urus” doesn’t sound quite as evocative as names like “Aventador”, “Diablo”, and “Murcielago” (mercy, oh lawdie!), there’s a reason for that. The Urus (Ooh-roos) is a cattle breed halfway between fighting bulls and working bulls, noted for its tall, wide shoulders. It’s also known as an Auroch, but too many people know what that is... might as well call it “Angus.”

The Urus Concept is a 600 horsepower... thing... sitting halfway between a sports car and an SUV that promises to carry four people in style and to drive like nothing else on the road. Sounds familiar? Yes, it does. But don’t ask BMW or Porsche if they’re worried about the Urus eating into X6M and Cayenne Turbo sales.

They should be positively terrified.

If you somehow felt that a 700 horsepower supercar that's wider than a truck and lower than a skateboard isn't impractical enough, how about a 700 horsepower supercar that's wider than a truck, lower than a skateboard, and with no roof?

If you were to say that only Lamborghini is outrageous enough to build something like that, you'd be right. The Lamborghini Aventador J is named after FIA Sporting Regulations "Appendix J", which covers specifications and regulations for racing cars. Forget the fact that the Aventador J breaks most of those rules, this car is simply mental.

Car names defined

Words by Christopher Kho and Jade Lu

car_names
Car makers across the globe name their latest models after elaborate words from the English dictionary (except for the Europeans who use a labyrinth of letters and numbers) to somehow reflect its prominent characteristics and dazzle their patrons over its obscure moniker. But after a multitude of brochures, advertisements, test drives, and car reviews, have we really given some thought what some of these nameplates really mean? Thankfully, the internet - and notably the guys at Dictionary.com - has put together a list of definitions for some of the most prominent and memorable car models ever to grace this planet.
