In recent years, Kia has been building cars that can already go toe-to-toe with its Japanese, American, and even European counterparts. But for some reason, the upgrade hasn't really translated into sales here in Philippines. Well, their fortunes have definitely changed in 2012 when the Columbian Autocar Corporation (CAC), Kia's exclusive distributor in the country, ended the year with an awesome 57.4% year-on-year sales increase.

CAC managed to sell 7,527 units in 2012, or 2,745 cars more than they did in 2011. Better yet, the impressive sales jump bests all other automotive brands in CAMPI, in terms of percentage of course. Beat that!

kia schreyer
Peter Schreyer used to be a designer for Audi and Volkswagen where he helped create icons such as the Audi TT and new VW Beetle. But when poached by Kia in 2006, he did more than simply draw cars. As duties of Chief Design Officer, this is the man that's solely responsible for the brand's signature “tiger-nose” grill and new design direction that turned Kia into a global name. And before 2012 came to an end, he was appointed as Kia's new President and was the very first non-Korean to do so.

Making its official debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, the all-new fourth generation 2013 Kia Carens is now more than just your trendy MPV. As it boasts a very striking style, it's no longer a wallflower like its predecessor.

The face of the all-new Carens is highlighted by the signature tiger nose grill that's also found in other current Kias. But due to the MPV's sheer size and proportion, this execution looks a bit more aggressive. Complementing it is the headlights' upward stroke shape that sparkles like a supermodel’s eyes. In contrast, a more subtle design wraps the rear end to balance it all out.

While we're still reeling from the Philippine launch of the stylish new-generation Rio, Kia pulled the covers off it’s second-generation Cee’d just before it’s official debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March. It's Kia's answer to the hardy compact car market in Europe, which means that there's almost a 0% chance it'll ever come here. All we can do is drool over this new hot hatch. It's a good indication though of what future Kia's will shape up to be.

With Cee’d now sporting a more aggressive yet sophisticated stance - I wouldn’t be surprised if it exceeds the benchmark set by the original one. The trademark tiger-nose grill, wrap-around headlights, and day time running lights will be the first things you’d notice. Complementing them are the steeply raked A-pillars, sweeping roofline, and a wider stance giving the Cee’d a more sporty profile required of a true European hatchback. Topping it off are unique tail-lights that extend to three body panels and an integrated spoiler.
