In 2012, Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI), the official distributor of Hyundai vehicles in the Philippines, sold a total of 21,996 cars, vans, SUVs, and trucks. That's an 8% increase from 2011's 20,297 units and an average of 1,833 units a month. Not bad Hyundai. Not bad at all.
Leading the numbers is the Passenger Car (PC) segment that has experienced a 25% growth from 2011. And of the 13,382 units they sold, 10,009 were subcompacts, 3,000 compacts, 286 midsize, and 87 sports cars. According to HARI, the shove is mainly attributed to the Eon that helped complement the performance of the Accent and Elantra. But when you really look into the details, there's actually a significant sales decline in their midsize sedan and sports car which are none other than the Sonata and Genesis Coupe. Although they didn't say what caused this downtrend, it's probably yet another supply problem.
