Pilipinas Shell pips “Most exciting car launch of the year” (w/ video)
Something big is coming to Shell. How big? Well, they sent us this 15 second teaser of what they'd like to hail as the “Most exciting car launch of the year.”
While they're keeping mum on what exactly is hiding under the cloth, the silhouette resembles a modern Formula 1 car. But from what we can see, its front wing, side pods, air intake, and rear wing are either too high or too angular to be anything close to the past or present grand prix cars. One important detail though is that the Italian racing red cover bears the emblem of Scuderia Ferrari.

Ex-Formula 1 driver Alex Zanardi wins Paralympic Gold

On the off-season, many Formula One drivers compete in various athletic events. Most notably, former world champion Jenson Button recently competed in an Iron Man 70.3 in Cebu, right before flying back to Belgium and winning his second race of the year.
While most fans can tell you who Jenson Button is, not many know of Alex Zanardi. His unremarkable Formula One career was beset by bad luck and bad timing. Instead, he is best known for his back-to-back world championships in the American CART series (now known as Champ Car) in the late 90’s.
In those days, “Mister Donut” was known for exceptional race craft and daring overtakes. He would celebrate each victory by spinning his racer on track. In this latest victory, he instead held it high over his head. Not hard to do, as his racing hand-cycle is very light.
For this former world champion and double amputee, very few victories have ever been as sweet.

Total hoons dominance in 2011 Formula 1 and WRC season
Once again, Total demonstrates its dominance in motorsports as the proud parter of two of the world's most successful racing teams. Even before the 2011 Formula 1 and World Rally Championship (WRC) season has ended, both the Red Bull Racing Team and Citroën Total World Rally Team have already won the constructor's title. On top of those victories, Sebastian Vettel took home his second Formula 1 driver's world championship with four races to spare, while seven-time WRC champion Sebastien Loeb is on his way to an eighth title with only one round left in this year's calendar.

Thompson makes first Formula 1 outing in Taiwan
Days after our interview with Gary Thompson, the 19-year old Dubliner flew to Taiwan and got behind the wheel of a two-seater Formula 1 car for the grand opening of all-new Penbay International Circuit. The outing was not a full-on test, but rather served as a demonstration run where distinguished guests got a piggyback ride around the 3.5 km circuit.
Despite the wet conditions, Thompson enjoyed his time behind the wheel of the Minardi Formula 1 two-seater which produced in excess of 700hp from its race-derived 3L Cosworth V10 engine.

Taking a pitstop with rising Formula 3 star Gary Thompson

We had a quick chat with rising Irish race car driver Gary Thompson last June while he was on a break from his Formula 3 season. Now that the championship's over and he's back in the Philippines for a short stay, we caught up with Gary once more to find out how his season shaped up and what's in store next for the future Formula 1 star.
All-Japan Formula 3 season round up
The 2011 Japanese Formula 3 season was composed of 16 rounds spread over seven race weekends. But due to the devastating 8.9 magnitude earthquake that hit in March, the race calendar had to be delayed. Add to that the cancellation of the Rounds 12 and 13 in Suzuka due to a Typhoon. “We had a good year. All year we've been very quick. Maybe lacking a small bit of qualifying pace in comparison to race pace and that made the race difficult. In F3 it is hard to overtake. We've had an uphill struggle all year. We've managed to win some races, a lot of podiums, overall it's a good year,” commented Gary.

Gary Thompson's road to Formula One

Even before he was old enough to get a driver's license, Gary Thompson was already busy racking up the victories on the race track. The young Irishman practically grew up in the circuits around the world - racing in go karts, Formula BMW, and more recently in the Japanese Formula 3 series. With a natural talent for speed and a dedicated team behind him, Gary surely has his sights fixed on Formula One to join the ranks of fellow countrymen Ralph Firman Jr. and Eddie Irvine.
