It was around five months ago when we first got to drive Hyundai's much-awaited Accent hatch that's fitted with a CRDi VGT engine upfront. Back then, Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI), the official Philippine distributor of the Korean marque, told us that they were expecting the five-door subcompact to hit showrooms before 2012 ended. But it's now 2013 so where exactly is it? Well, after a few delays, HARI is proud to announce that the Accent CRDi VGT hatchback is finally available at Hyundai dealerships nationwide.

At last, Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI) is ready to bring the long-awaited Accent CRDi VGT hatchback on the road. We got to drive their brand-new subcompact during the qualitative test of the 2012 - 2013 Car of the Year Philippines (COTY-P) in October. Back then, HARI told us that it will go on sale “this year.” But from the looks of it, we have to wait just a little bit longer when it finally hits local showrooms by the first quarter of 2013.

After three worry-free years with our old Kia Cee’d, we’re astounded with the Korean promise of improved quality, unprecedented list of standard equipment, and ground breaking seven-year warranty. And for our upcoming European Road Trip through UK, France, and Spain, the unanimous decision with the family was to take a chance with Kia’s big sister - the giant-slaying and overachieving Hyundai. Ticking all the right options and considering the immediate availability of a unit is our top priority after our abysmal experience with our local Ford dealer.

Upon test-driving the 110 hp 1.6L CRDi i30 for a good 30 minutes, we were left in awe on how far Hyundai raised the bar for its competitors in every aspect. Ride and handling, interior finish, design and practicality, standard equipment, and running cost - nothing came close to the overall value this car can offer.

The Accent Diesel was a hit when it was released a few years back, and units were quickly snapped-up due to its low price and even lower running cost. So when Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI) launched the all-new Accent in late 2010, we were left scratching our heads as to why it no longer came with a diesel option. But after the long and painful wait, the Accent 1.6 CRDi VGT has finally arrived. And oh, did I mention it's a hatchback?

Once upon a time, Kia was known as a “cheap” alternative. The Pride, for one, was once the cheapest brand new vehicle available on the market in the early 90's. This trend continued through with the Picanto, which debuted at half the price of its then non-existent competitors.

Nowadays, Kia is more mainstream. In fact, it positions itself as an upmarket choice to the common car, with stylish models like the Rio and the Sportage. And while the Sorento may not be the newest car in the Kia garage, it’s still one of the more enticing SUVs in its segment, so we went out to find out just how exciting it really is.
