Jaguar has come out strong at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show with their release of the 2012 XKR-S. As an overhaul of the award-winning XK, new super buff is Jaguar’s most agile production sports car yet.

Featuring a highly efficient supercharged AJ-V8 Gen III R direct-injection engine, the XKR-S has a maximum speed of 300 km/h and only takes 4.2 seconds to go from 0 to 100 kph. It is currently Jaguar’s fastest and most powerful series production sports car. Of course, the XK underwent heavy modifications in order to achieve what it has become. Complimenting a strong engine is the XKR-S’ slimmer and more aerodynamic body - a product of extensive research and study in the aspect of Computational Fluid Dynamics.

Certainly, style is not the main priority of all that development study, for what are good looks without great performance? “The styling of this car isn't about image, it's about true performance,” said Ian Callum, Design Director for Jaguar Cars. “Like other iconic Jaguars before it, the styling has been driven by geometry and aerodynamics for genuine design purity. The physics required to achieve 300 km/h have led the aesthetic.” The XKR-S stays true to the principle of ‘form following function.' The physics required brought about a new front bumper and some lean lines.

The all-new Toyota FT-86 II, an inspiration behind a bevy of Toyota sports cars, drew attention in its debut in the Geneva Motor Show this year. The concept car served as a clear picture of how or what the final FT-86 will look like when it becomes available next year.

A Totally New Design
Under a design concept dubbed as “Functional Beauty” by ED2 (Toyota's European Design Development), the FT-86 II flaunts its aesthetic form entirely on the constraints of function, and aerodynamics derived from Formula One technology.

The car looks nothing like its predecessors. Its front fascia is an artwork, adorned by a spectral intimidating stare, complemented by round jewels of LED fog lamps underneath. On its side, the FT-86 II instills the familiar contours of sports coupes before it. Its rear fascia, slightly elevated compared to the front, is accompanied by two round exhausts, and a low-hung rear wing. Design-wise, the FT-86 II looks like an elegant coupe born to hit the road screaming.

Kia is making big waves at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show with two of its smallest cars. By unveiling the faces of the new Rio and its smaller sibling, the Picanto, Kia is redefining its style by giving it some attitude. And with both cars bearing the signature 'tiger nose' grill, the Korean automaker is ready to claw its way up the top of the compact and sub-compact car market.

The Rio Revolution
Do you remember what the old Rio looked like? Yeah, neither do we. It only made so much as a small dent in the local market, but the fourth-generation Rio is set to make a gigantic crater with its bold and distinct personality. Taking a European design approach, the Rio is currently only made available in five- and three-door trims. It is now 55 mm longer, 25 mm wider and 15 mm lower, making this a very sleek low-slug hatchback.

After teasing the public with a pre-production version last year, the brand new production version Agera R was presented at the Geneva Motor Show this March 2011. The latest Koenigsegg hypercar is off the leash and ready to pounce.

No, it’s not a time machine. It’s more appropriately a time-warped machine. By that, I mean ageless, of course. The Agera takes on the original philosophy, shape, and size of the original Koenigsegg CC from 15 years ago. At the same time, its in-house developed 32-valve Twin Turbo V8 engine and LED-lit interior (among other things) keep it fresh and futuristic.

For this sexy beast to pounce, it needs the right amount of weight, or lack thereof. The Agera features the lightest and most compact hypercar engine in the world at a mere 197kg including the flywheel, clutch, dry sump system, and Inconel exhaust manifold with turbo. But don’t let the light weight fool you; the Agera's engine has class-leading power and torque characteristics. Depending on the version and fuel, it can reach a maximum of 1200 Nm of torque and 1,100 hp. To make certain of a long driving range, this ride comes with an 80 liter fuel tank. And seeing how everyone loves responsible luxury, the Agera engine complies with the most stringent environmental regulations in the world - EU5 and LEV2. Impressive!

Lamborghini's newest raging bull is here. Making its world-debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 is christened after a bull that entered into battle in October 1993 at the Saragossa Arena, earning it the “Trofeo de la Peña La Madroñera” for its outstanding courage. In the same manner, the LP 700-4 is a powerful and brutal animal created to wage war on track.

Sculpted with the same design philosophy as the iconic Reventón, the Aventador is rendered with razor-sharp lines that let it slice through air. It’s even embellished in the same “jet-fighter” theme with its large hexagonal air intakes at the front and back. And in true Lamborghini fashion, the Aventador features the signature upward-opening scissor doors. But its most striking asset is the optional transparent engine cover that reveals the 700 horsepower 6.5 liter V12 lurking inside the bull.
