Showcasing its top-of-the-line model in Beijing is the EcoSport Titanium, painted in the distinctive Mars Red shade. The production version comes equipped with 16-inch aluminium alloy wheels, three-tier hexagonal chrome grill, and Ford's new 1.0 liter three-cylinder EcoBoost engine.
Underpowered you say? Think again. This new engine can produce 118 horsepower and 169 Nm of torque, which is comparable to the Fiesta's larger 1.6L four-cylinder Ti-VCT engine. Designed to achieve good mileage, but with a performance feel of a larger engine, it’s more than enough to enjoy driving this little party around.
For the first time, Ford reveals the EcoSport's interior and, suffice it to say, we're not that surprised that it actually looks like an upsized Fiesta inside. But with added silver trims, red-stitched leather seats, and climate control, the well-equipped cabin is classier and delivers new standards of craftsmanship and quality. In addition, the EcoSport comes with Ford's ground-breaking technologies such as the Ford SYNC with voice control, Smart Keyless Entry, Ford Power Start, and a cooled bin in the glove box. Of course, this compact SUV can still comfortably fit five people and should deliver them a quiet and comfortable ride.
For a more enjoyable driving experience, the EcoSport is fitted with a variety of driving assist features including Hill Launch Assist, rear parking sensors, and electric power assisted steering (EPAS) for excellent steering response and improved fuel efficiency. And for added peace of mind, dual front and side curtain airbags, ABS, and ESP are included as standard.
Part of the One Ford strategy, the all-new EcoSport is “part of a bigger plan to bring more than 50 new vehicles and powertrains to the Asia Pacific and Africa region by mid-decade.” That means we should expect it to arrive on our shores on or before 2015, if we're lucky.
