Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) just released a voluntary safety recall of some 20,587 affected CR-V's to replace components of the Lighting Switch Assembly with countermeasure parts. The safety recall involves the low beam connecting wire replacement of second-generation 2002 to 2004 model CR'V-s.

Findings show that due to insufficient length of the headlight switch's electric wire, the wire is being stretched during operation. As a result, the terminal wire joint moves and causes increase in contact resistance, thereby generating heat that could cause the wire connecting coupler to melt. This would eventually lead to a headlight switch malfunction and cause the low beam to become non-operational. Thankfully, no accidents or injuries have been reported related to this defect.

Replacement of affected parts will be carried out in all of Honda's 28 authorized dealers and 3 service centers nationwide, FREE of CHARGE and will take around 40 minutes to repair.  Other CR-V's belonging to a different year model will not experience the same failure because a different headlight lighting circuit is installed.

HCPI said in a statement: “With its thrust in making certain that customer safety is held at the utmost priority and as part of Honda’s company principle on worldwide customer satisfaction, HCPI is carrying out a proactive market action through the conduct of a Voluntary Safety Recall. This action is in accordance to Honda’s own standard even if there is no specific law in the Philippines that requires such an action.”

Honda CR-V units with the following frame (VIN) numbers are included in the safety measure:
