If you think that the endless increase in fuel prices, worsening traffic jams, and high toll fees would actually deter anyone from buying a new car, well you're wrong. Despite all the odds, the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID) managed to report a 46% sales growth in February 2012 over the same period last year. Collectively, AVID members sold 2,881 vehicles, compared to the 1,971 units in the same month last year.

According to the tally, the impressive performance was largely driven by strong Passenger Car (PC) sales that more than doubled to 2,025 units from the 934 units sold in February 2011. The key to this was the timely arrival of new models and ready supply of stocks. This translates to a year-on-year growth of 41%. It's also good to point out that Motor Image Pilipinas, the official importer and distributor of Subaru in the country, has recently joined forces with AVID, and is thus helping rack up the numbers.

“On the back of continuing positive consumer outlook, favorable macroeconomic landscape, and aggressive marketing campaigns, we expect our strong sales performance to be sustained in the next quarters,” remarked AVID President Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo.
