Thai floods hamper Ford Philippines' sales in January

What most of didn't know was that Ford's AutoAlliance facility in Rayong, Thailand (where the all-new Fiesta, Ranger, and Everest are built) was actually shut down for several weeks late last year due to floods. While the plant in itself was unaffected by the rising waters, a number of its suppliers were not so fortunate. As a result, the supply shortage that cascaded into our country hampered Ford Philippines' sales last January 2012, where they were only able to sell 367 units - a grim 62.3% decline from December's 973 units. Still, the blue oval brand remains optimistic to bounce back with the launch of three all-new One Ford vehicles and the opening of 12 new Ford dealerships this year.

Leading the pack in sales was the all-new Ford Fiesta with retail sales reaching 143 units - maintaining its position as the country's best-selling 5-door hatchback. The Escape, on the other hand, stayed strong with 112 units sold, while the all-new Explorer has now surpassed 400 customer bookings since the model was launched in October 2011.

“Supply issues caused by the Thai floods caught up with us in January, but our showrooms remained very busy during the month and customer bookings continued to be strong. This helped reinforce our confidence in another strong full year ahead, which will be boosted by the launch of more segment-leading global One Ford vehicles,” said Randy Krieger, President, Ford Group Philippines.

Things to look forward to from Ford Philippines are the launch of the all-new Ford Ranger and 2.0L GTDi EcoBoost version of the all-new Explorer at the upcoming Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). They will then launch the all-new Focus later in the year. And to expand their territories, 12 new authorized Ford dealerships will open this year, driving up its nationwide dealer network to 35 in total.
