In spite of supply problems caused by the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan, and the massive flooding in Thailand, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) still managed a modest 1% sales growth last year as compared to 2010. With a total sales of 32,603 units, Mitsubishi captured 20% of the market share, retaining its title as the second best-selling automotive brand in the country in 2011. And to jump start the new year, MMPC just announced the arrival of the all-new Mirage scheduled later this year.

On top of these achievements, MMPC also bested both the SUV and double cab pick-up segments with the Montero Sport, Pajero, and Strada, which contributed to a 2.5% increase in Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) sales. To date, a total of 33,515 units of the Montero Sport has been sold locally since its introduction, making it the Philippines' best-selling SUV and second-best selling vehicle. Its Fuso trucks and buses, on the other hand, enjoyed a rather impressive 12.7% increase.

Looking forward to 2012, MMPC has a very optimistic projected growth of 12% over its 2011 sales performance of 36,500 units. That means, they're planning to sell 4,380 more vehicles this year with the help of several new models in its line-up.

First on the list is the Mirage, which marks Mitsubishi's return to the small car market in the country since the 80's. Powered by an economical 1.0L 3-cylinder (or a rumored 1.2L local version) with CVT, it tucks neatly between the mini and sub-compact car category and is scheduled to arrive in December. Then, reports say that a new bare-bones version of the Montero Sport will be coming soon that should boarder between the P 1-million mark.

MMPC is also venturing into fleet service with the L200 single cab pick-up and a taxi-version of the Adventure which has been approved and accredited by the Land Transportation and Franchise Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

In addition, three new dealerships are scheduled to open within the year to bring Mitsubishi's total number of outlets to 49.
