For the past nine years, Toyota Motors Philippines (TMP) has practically dominated the car market in the Philippines. But in 2011, they came close to losing the title to Mitsubishi. Luckily, supply once again normalized and it looks like they're back on track to win their 10th successive Triple Crown

Toyota has sold a total of 34,190 units this year earning 36.7% of the market share according to the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI). They also achieved the highest market share on all vehicle segments and sold 4,832 vehicles in August. In the passenger car segment, Toyota's supremacy is undeniable with total sales accumulating to 1,734 units, 1,365 of which are comprised Vios' - the country's best selling vehicle.

The Toyota Tent event held last month was the first of TMP's several recovery plan to achieve this goal. As planned, Toyota reclaimed the no. 1 position in the Commercial Vehicle segment brought about by the huge success of the Event. The Innova led the pack with 1,122 unit sales last month topping all other commercial vehicle models sold in the country.

In a statement, TMP President Mr. Michinobu Sugata said, “The improved performance of Toyota can be attributed to the joint sales efforts and hard work of all our Dealers and Team Members towards the achievement of our goal. The resumption of full production output of our locally manufactured Vios and Innova was one of the major factors in helping TMP regain the year to date lead across all vehicle categories. In addition to this, I firmly believe that the introduction of the New Fortuner and New Hilux will strengthen Toyota’s position in the CV segment and further assert our dominance as the no. 1 automotive manufacturer in the country. I am definitely pleased that we are ahead in our plans and that we are poised to achieve our 10th consecutive triple crown this year.”
