The XT model retains the 227 horsepower 2.5 liter turbocharged engine that speed junkies have already formed an attachment to. However, there's a newly developed 2.0 liter flat-four in the XS. The latest “FB” series engine might still produce the same 148 horsepower, but all the improvements have been made on the inside. By reducing internal friction by 28%, it now has smoother acceleration, an improved fuel economy by as much as 10%, and consequently produces much less emissions. Owners of the new 2.0XS should also be delighted that Subaru has switched from a toothed-belt to a chain-driven timing gear, improving the engine's longevity.
Staying true to Subaru's heritage, both Forester models still feature Subaru's unique full-time Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system and DOHC horizontally-opposed Boxer engine with Active Valve Control Systme (AVCS). The great package wouldn't be complete without safety features. SRS front, side, and curtain airbags; front three-point seatbelts with pre-tensioners; three-point seatbelts for all three rear passengers; and ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) to name a few.
After a quick cosmetic face-lift and a revitalizing heart transplant, the 2011 Subaru Forester now has a new outlook in life. It's back in shape and ready to mingle. Making this deal sweet, the 2011 Forester 2.5XT is currently listed at P1,758,000, while the 2.0XS is available for P1,388,000 at Subaru's Greenhills showroom along EDSA, Greenhills.
