Hosted by Teresa Herrera and Johnny Litton, the night was a celebration of the CT200h, the world’s first luxury full-hybrid compact vehicle. Compared to mild hybrids where the electric engine is simply supplementary to the main combustion engine, the new full-hybrid system is an efficient union of a high output electric motor, a combustion engine, a hybrid transmission, and a hybrid battery. The two power sources give a combined 134hp output and can achieve a fuel economy of up to 24.4 km/L. All this was housed under a strong, aerodynamic body. This car has so much appeal, even the hosts could not get their hands off!
Among its features, the CT200h features a novel “2 moods, 2 modes” selector, allowing the driver to match the car’s personality with his. The ECO mode adjusts the air conditioning settings and throttle response to attain optimal fuel economy. No CO2, NOx or any sort of particulates are generated when switched to Electric Vehicle mode. This is perfect for the urbanite gone green.
Feeling a bit playful? The SPORT mode increases engine revs and voltage, bringing out the brute within. More responsive throttle and power-steering settings and liberal vehicle stability and traction control systems make for a fun ride.
Assistant Chief Engineer of the Lexus Hybrid Drive, Yoichiro Kasai comments, “With Lexus Hybrid Drive, the CT200h couples dynamic driving pleasure, distinctive good looks, class leading comfort and class leading fuel economy to stand out in the compact luxury segment in Asia. This car continues to represent Lexus’ pursuit of perfection. I am confident that the CT 200h will play a key role in raising the Lexus Brand to new heights.”
Lexus is promoting progressive luxury - technological innovation and ecological responsibility without sacrificing luxury and comfort. The luxury automaker is making a clear statement that caring for the environment can be done in style. The CT200h is a vehicle that stands out in environmental responsibility, but fits right in with the rest of Lexus’ lineup.
“The CT200h will serve as a gateway model to the Lexus brand, a vehicle that allows Lexus customers of any age to experience the technology and innovation powering Lexus hybrid drive,” says Mr. Alfred Ty, Chairman of Lexus Manila, Inc.
Capping the night was a walk down memory lane as David Pomeranz, Pops Fernandez, and Zsa Zsa Padilla brought down the house with songs from the yesteryears. And despite being the stars that they were, they still looked on with awe as the CT200h stood proudly beside them on stage.
