Even with the scorching heat of the sun, over 200 drivers and spectators showed up at the Clark International Speedway (CIS) in Pampanga for the second leg of the GT Radial - Circuit Showdown 2012, last April 14. Run on the circuit's West Course, the Philippines' largest motorsports gathering attracted 70+ entrants for the Time Trial and 25 cars in the Grid race once again.

Grid Race
For the main 10 lap sprint race, Nino Garcia in his Subaru Impreza STI came out on top in Grid A, barely holding off the charging Paolo Mantolino who was only 0.898 seconds behind when the pair crossed the finished line. Coming in third was Rafael La'O in his new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution who was more than 10 seconds behind.

When Hyundai launched the Eon, they touted the diminutive car’s wide choice of colors. We’re not talking ten different shades of gray, white, and beige here, but colors like Yellow, Clean Blue and Electrix Red. Yet Hyundai chose to lend us a concrete-colored car.

They call the shade “Mushroom”... though it’s more a sort of creamy silver. But then a stray shaft of sunlight hits it and... oooh... pretty. There’s an opalescent sheen to it that the Japanese would gleefully charge you P50k extra for.

The paint certainly suits the car. Because the Eon is a fascinating study in design on a budget.

With the poor traffic conditions and high fuel prices in the Philippines, it comes as no surprise when the latest Shell FuelSave Index shows that Filipino drivers has the top fuel saving awareness in Asia.

According to the study, 94% of those surveyed see fuel efficiency as an important way to save money. That pretty much explains why 87% of them are willing to change their driving behavior to save fuel. Better yet, 85% have actually changed the way they drive to reduce fuel consumption. However, the index has revealed that 20% say that more education and information is needed in order for Filipinos to learn how to drive more efficiently.

So in response to these findings, Shell launched the “Target One Million” campaign to help one million motorists across the globe learn how to save fuel.

Rain or shine, Bimmerfest 2012 must go on. On the 5th of May, 2012, the BMW Car Club of the Philippines, the officially recognized BMW car club by the International Council of BMW Clubs and BMW AG, took 39 of their best four-wheeled Bimmers to the 9th Ave. Activity Center of the BGC to put their passion and joy on display.

The all-BMW car show featured Bimmers from all generations, complete from the smallest 1 Series' to the the full blown X5. There were also some rare M Powered monsters and some sexy Z's on display. And despite the rain showers, the 9th edition of Bimmerfest flooded with BMW fans, admirers, owners, and drivers.

For those lonely few who can realistically dream about buying a Ferrari FF, forget it. The Ferrari FF, launched just last week here at the Autostrada Motore Inc., the official Ferrari importer-distributor in the Philippines, has been sold. Yup. Just one of these Ferociously Fast beasts will be brought in by Ferrari this year, and it’s accounted for already, for an undisclosed, but presumably very tidy, sum.

It’s not surprising. This is a very unusual car. It’s Ferrari’s first four-wheel drive, and it’s a four-seater, to boot. It’s Fast, Furious, and Fantastic. Amusingly, since FF means “Ferrari Four”, its official name is “Ferrari Ferrari...”, which is twice as many as most owners get. And if you think I’ve run out of “F” words to throw at the car.

You’re probably right.
