So that you'd know what your chances are of surviving an accident in an all-new CX-5, the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) put Mazda's latest crossover to the test for you. They've crashed it head on, against a pole, and even onto a hapless dummy pedestrian all in the name of safety. And after the dust has settled, not only did the CX-5 pass with flying colors, but it also achieved the maximum five-star safety rating, which pretty much means you, your passengers, and that annoying jaywalker should be able to walk away in case of a crash.

Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI) has done it again. In just the five months of the year, the exclusive distributor of the Korean automaker in the Philippines managed to sell 10,395 units, which is a whopping 29% jump over the 8,062 they achieved in the same period last year. Looks like they're really giving Mitsubishi a run for their money.

Remember our story about a new concept roadster from Jaguar, the C-X16? Well, guess what? The big cat have confirmed that this concept, launched at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, will finally become a reality. Given the official name F-TYPE, it's scheduled to enter production very very soon and we should be able to see it in the sheet metal later this year. The only difference we can see in this early prototype from the concept is that they've turned the coupe into a soft top roadster.

On the 80th running of the most prestigious endurance race in the world, a hybrid qualified on pole for the very first time in history. Bearing car number “1”, the Audi R18 e-tron quattro driven by André Lotterer achieved the fastest lap of 3m 23.787s in the final qualifying session of the 24 Heures du Mans 2012 last Thursday. Lotterer will share driving duties with Marcel Fässler and Benoît Tréluyer - the same group who won the race last year.

"The car was running like it was on rails, simply incredible," said the 31-year-old German, which allowed him to improve on last year's best time by nearly two seconds.

The Honda City has been around for quite some time now. Since it was launched locally  in the mid 90’s, it has become one of the most ubiquitous vehicles around. Back then, the model was only offered with an eco-miser 1.3L engine that came with either an old school carburetor or a more respectable electronic fuel injection system. Then a couple of years later, a 1.5L EFI version came along, which gained the City a much bigger following, as it was one of the most reliable and affordable cars available at the time.

Come the turn of the millennium, the SX8 (as it was fondly known to a huge number of its owners) had grown a bit long in the tooth and was given a complete revamp. Launched in 2003, the second generation City was a marked departure from the outgoing model and featured numerous avant garde improvements. Among them were a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), and an innovative and highly flexible rear seats dubbed as ULT (Utility, Long, Tall) seating. These innovative features had never been available before in a local subcompact until the Honda City came along, showing people what a compact urban people mover ought to be.

So to see if Honda has kept its winning formula intact, we got our hands on a newly face-lifted third generation for a quick test drive.

Although it's true that electric-powered cars have been around for quite some time now, the common misconception about them is that they aren't as good as their gas-powered counterparts. Well, at least in terms of performance. Enter the Mitsubishi i-MiEV Evolution

The i-MiEV Evolution is the latest Frankenstein to come out from the workshop of Mitsubishi Motors Company (MMC).  Set to compete in the upcoming 2012 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb this July, this is surely one electric car that's made to give petrol-power a run for their money.
