Standing less than five meters away from a Lotus Formula 1 car doing donuts in the middle of the Quirino Grandstand stands as one of the Manila Speed Show's most memorable moments. Fine. So it might actually be a Renault R31 from 2010 that the team just repainted to resemble their current grand prix car, but who cares when you feel that 700+ hp V8 engine pummel your chest with its howling revs.

For those who braved the heat to see the first-ever Formula 1 car to actually roll down Philippine asphalt at the hands of Filipino-Swiss driver Marlon Stockinger, may this bring back memories of those glorious moments. And for those who missed out on this historic event last May 4 and 5, 2013, come and see what you missed.

honda formula1
Soichiro Honda was once quoted saying: “If Honda does not race, there is no Honda.” And one of their biggest undertaking was Formula 1.

It started as early as the 60's where they enjoyed success as a full-fledged team. They then returned in the 80's as an engine supplier for McLaren and won the driver's and constructor's championship from '88 to '92 with Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. Honda even had a short stint as a constructor a few years ago, until the company pulled the plug in 2008 due to limited success.

Sadly, Honda's motorsports program has been dormant for the past few years, which made us wonder wether Honda has lost their way. Well, I'm glad to let everyone know that their dry spell is almost over. That's because Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has just announced their return to the FIA Formula 1 World Championship from the 2015 season onwards as an engine supplier for McLaren once again.

It’s been only two months since we got word that Filipino-Swiss driver Marlon Stockinger was recruited by the newly-formed Lotus F1 Junior team. That means he'll race under the Lotus F1 team in the 2013 World Series by Renault and be trained to become a future Formula 1 driver. This keeps our hopes up that, one day, we'll see the Philippine flag raised on the Formula 1 grid. Thankfully, we don't have to wait months or years to see Marlon in a Formula 1 car. We don't even have to go very far, because from May 4 to 5, 2013, the Lotus F1 Team will bring Formula 1 to Manila.

The aptly named the Manila Speed Show will bring Formula 1 action to our streets, more specifically on the streets at the Quirino Grandstand and SM Mall of Asia (MOA). Although we don't have the complete and final details yet, here's everything you need to know to the ultimate Formula 1 experience in Manila.

ups ferrari
Starting this 2013 season, there'll be a new sticker added to Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa's F138 race car. That's because UPS just signed a multi-year contract to be Scuderia Ferrari's new official logistics and shipping sponsor.

As part of the deal, UPS will become fully integrated into Ferrari's daily operations on and off the Formula 1 grid by providing critical delivery and transportation services. In other words, they'll have the full responsibility of shipping all of the team's equipment, tools, and Formula 1 race cars to all 19 races in the 2013 Formula 1 World Championship season.

For the first time in Formula One history, the Caterham F1 team (formerly Team Lotus) came in first... to unveil their 2012 contender, that is. Unfortunately, it doesn’t count towards the season’s point tally and means little for their standings in the championship. Still, the Caterham CT-01 is a good preview of what many F1 cars may shape up to be this season.

With new rules imposing a stringent maximum height for the nose and a minimum height for the bodywork behind it, the Caterham’s duck-billed countenance is no surprise. It’s not pretty, but Caterham’s road cars have never been praised for their beauty, anyway. Still, it remains to be seen how competitive this fledgling team will be this year.
