porsche sharapova
There's no denying that Porsche makes very beautiful, elegant, and powerful super cars. And whoever will represent the brand must have the same qualities, or better. So it's a no-brainer why Porsche AG chose the lovely 26-year-old professional tennis player Maria Sharapova as their new brand ambassador.

Currently ranked as the world's no. 2 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), not only is Sharapova one of the highest paid female athletes in the world, but she could also be the sexiest (Google photos of Maria Sharapova if you don't know what I mean). Again, you see why she's the perfect match for Porsche? Not even her Russian descent or 6' 2” stature mattered to the Germans.

911gt3 main2013 looks to be a year of milestones as a good bunch of car companies of “super status” commemorate a special event of their being. Ferrari came out with the wicked LaFerrari to celebrate their 70th year, Lamborghini blossomed at 50 with their Veneno triplets, and Aston Martin marks a century with the same stuff but with a neat looking color, nice fabric, and goody bags to go with their toys. Not to stray far from their “super friends” are the kids from Stuttgart, Porsche.

The 911 has held a classic icon status by retaining most of its’ shape since its’ conception in 1963. Even mere mortals with a small drop of gear oil running through their veins can distinguish a Porsche by merely looking at the silhouette. This year, the company celebrates their 50th birthday by making a better thing better-er, this is the new 991-based 911 GT3.

panamerastc mainPorsche gives in to tree huggers yet again. The Stuttgart-based company recently unveiled the Panamera Sport Turismo Concept to display the proper marriage of “drive technology” and “evolution of the Porsche design for tomorrow.” I guess what they're trying to say is, it's the latest hybrid from Porsche and it hints of what Porsches eventually will look like in the near future.

911date main
It's not everyday that you get the chance to go on a date with a supermodel - a voluptuous German one for that matter. So when the opportunity came my way, I could hardly say no. She might be a little wide on the hips, but she is sure to turn heads wherever she goes. Some have warned me that this doll could be a bit too hot too handle. Still, I've heard that she's great in the saddle. Her name is the Porsche 911 Carrera S, and she’s based on the latest 991 chassis.

The current 997-based 911 GT3 Cup Car has been in use for around eight years now, and it's about time for a fresh new model to come take its place. So when the seventh-generation Porsche 911 Carrera came into light late last year, it sort of gave us an idea of what their next race car will look like. Well, here it is. This is the new 991-based 911 GT3 Cup Car that will blow your socks off starting in 2013. But more importantly, it's a good indication what the next road-going 911 GT3 will shape up to be when it hits Porsche showrooms in the very near future.

jdpower sonic

Hands down, the all-new 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is currently the most APEAL-ing subcompact in the US - that's according to J.D. Power's 2012 US Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout (APEAL) study.

The win speaks a lot about the Sonic's attributes. Apparently, new vehicle buyers in North America are beginning to find smaller cars just as appealing as larger ones they previously owned. The study shows that today's subcompact and compact cars are just as “APEAL-ing” as midsized cars four years ago. And the biggest factor associated with this trend is the better fuel economy offered by these new small cars. Runner-ups for the category were the Fiat 500 and Ford Fiesta.

*UPDATE*
We just got confirmation that all five Petron Porsche toys are 1:32 scale die cast metal models. Equipped with a sound chip and LED head and tail lights, the car alarm and flashing lights is triggered when you open the doors.

If you don't fancy Shell's LEGO Ferrari collection, perhaps you might want to hop over to Petron as they offer their own toy car set in German. The 'Passion for Porsche' promo lets you take home your very own Porsche whenever you gas up at Petron.

Collect all five (5) Porsche toys that plays engine revving, horn, and car alarm sounds. They also come with working LED head and tail lights, opening doors, and pull-back action. We're guessing that these are 1/32 scale die cast models, but we haven't seen them in person just yet. Models available are the Cayman, Carrera 911, Panamera, Cayenne, and by December 1, 2012, the 911 GT3 RSR. No assembly required.

Aside from Alonso, Vettel, Button, and Schumacher, the Porsche SC Global Carrera Cup Asia will also be lining up on the grid at the Marina Bay street circuit in Singapore this weekend. Held as a support race to the 2012 Formula 1 Singtel Singapore GP, this will be Round 9 of the 11-race 2012 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia season.

A record 28 identical Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars will race around the 5.073 km track prior to the start of the main GP. Though they won't be racing at night, the drivers will only have 12 laps to fight it out for the top spot of the podium - making this a tough dogfight to the finish.

After a great first outing at the famed Nürburgring in Germany, Tuason Racing School (TRS) founder and President, JP Tuason was invited to return to the next round of the Porsche Sports Cup, scheduled on August 3 to 5, at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium - the very same track used in the Formula 1 Grand Prix calendar.

Tuason will drive a 2011-spec Porsche 911 GT3 prepared by G-Force Racing Academy. The multi-awarded racecar driver is hoping to do a repeat performance of his previous race where he posted the best time in his division.

Mission Complete, VW takes over Porsche

Words by Niky Tamayo

vw_porsche
An epic tale that began nearly a decade ago, when Porsche started buying out shares in Volkswagen, culminated on the 1st of August, 2012, when VW formally took over Porsche, completely. Remember when Porsche owned a majority stake in Volkswagen and attempted a takeover? Remember the financial gymnastics the Volkswagen group went through to shake itself free of hedge fund ownership?

No? Not really? No big deal then. Those of us who know the story hardly understand it, either. But this drama, longer in the making than a Peter Jackson epic, is finally over. And the final act was as predictable as the One Ring being swallowed up by the fires in which it was forged.
